Abstract:
This work explored the impact of dietary frankincense oil (FO) on growth performance parame-ters at different rearing stages, carcass characters, the profile of fatty acids of breast muscle, and immune status in broilers. A total number of 400 one-day-aged male chicks (Ross 308 broiler) were haphazardly allotted into four treatments (10 replicates/ group, 10 chicks/replicate) that consisted of basal diets complemented with different concentrations of FO 0, 200, 400, and 600 mg Kg-1 for 35 days. The overall body weight (BW) and body weight gain (BWG) was increased by different levels of FO addition, and the FCR improved linearly with upgrade in supplemen-tation level. Total feed intake (TFI) was not affected. Growth hormones and total protein levels linearly increased by increasing the FO level, while albumin was amplified linearly in the FO600 group. Moreover, total globulins increased linearly in FO400 and FO600 treatment groups. The levels of thyroxin hormones (T3 and T4) were increased in all FO treatments with-out affecting serum values of glucose and leptin. Supplementation of the diets with FO at differ-ent levels increased the activities of complement 3 and lysozyme, interleukin 10 levels in the serum. Dietary FO increased the total percentage of n-3, n-6 fatty acids, and the ratio of n-3 to n-6 linearly and quadratically. In addition to, up-regulation of immune expression CD3 and CD20 in the spleen. Dietary FO improved the intestinal histomorphology denoted by increased villus tall, villus width, crypt depth, muscular thickness, and number of goblet cells in different seg-ments of the small intestine. In conclusion, FO supplementation is valuable in broiler chicken diets due to its growth-promoting and immunity properties.
