Abstract:
Numerical investigation of two-phase jet flow has been carried out in this study. Air is considered as the carrier gas while electrostatically charged decane fuel is assumed as the liquid droplets species. Two-dimensional configuration is adopted to solve the gas flow field using Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) technique, and Lagrangian approach is used to solve the equations of the droplets within the domain. Cartesian mesh is used for the solution with the left boundary as inlet and all the other boundaries are outflow. The main purpose of the paper is to study the effect of electrostatic charging of the fuel drops on their penetration, evaporation, and size distribution. Three cases are chosen here; (a) free jet flow without charging (chosen as a base case), (b) free jet with charging and (c) confined jet with charging. For the third case, the lateral boundaries are assumed as no slip conductive walls. Significant variations of penetration, evaporation and size distribution behaviors have been obtained for the cases
