Abstract:
Melasma is a chronic acquired focal pigment disorder showing symmetrical hyperpigmentation or hypermelanosis of photoexposed areas as the face. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a novel treatment for melasma. The regression of melasma after platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) treatment is an interesting finding. Aim of the workTo clarify effect of microneedling followed by PRP versus microneedling followed by tranexamic acid in treatment in patients with melasma Patients and methods: The study included 26 patients complaining melasma. They were divided into two groups (I and II) and each included 13 patients. Group I was treated by microneedling with PRP. Group II was treated by microneedling with tranexamic acid. Results: The response to treatment was assessed using MASI scoring system before and after treatment. At the start of the study, there were no statistically significant differences (P> 0.05). At 2 nd and 3 rd sessions, there were statistically significant differences (P <0.05). At 4 th session, there were no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05).There were no statistically significant differences between two groups in complications as pain, erythema and PIH Conclusion: Microneedling with PRP gives better results than microneedling with TXA in melasma cases.
