Abstract:
Self-regulation intervention program plays a fundamental role in improving children’s lives and controlling impulsivity. Aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of self-regulation training program on reducing impulsivity among preschool children. Subjects & Methods: Research design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized. Setting: The study was conducted at two nursery schools in" DiarbNegm" city, Sharkia governorate, Egypt. Subjects: A sample of 50 children had impulsivity at ages from 4-6 years and their caregivers selected by using random multistage cluster sampling technique design recruited for the study. Tools of data collection: three tools were used in the present study; A structured interview questionnaire, Matching Familiar figure Test (MFFT) scale, and Self-regulation scale from the Child Self-Regulation & Behavior Questionnaire (CSBQ). Results: the study results revealed that 33.3% of children in the total study sample were impulsive. There was post-program statistically significant difference in children's self-regulation, indicating improvement. Also, there was a statistically significant decrease in children's total number of errors and increase in total response time after the program. Conclusion: the training program was significantly effective in ameliorating self-regulation abilities and therefore reducing impulsivity among studied children. Recommendation: The developed program should be implemented on a wider scale in different settings in Sharkia and other governorates to confirm its positive effects and for more generalization. Further researches should be developed to address the effect of various factors on impulsive behaviors to assist in building more effective and more tailored interventions for children
