Medical students have increased carriage rates of S. aureus and MRSA during their clinical course of study in Zagazig, Egypt. Therefore, these students need to observe better infection-control precautions. The finding of high resistance to antibiotics, like beta-lactams, reiterates the importance of judicious use of antibiotics. The detection of VRSA isolates is an additional matter of concern that may be due to an indiscriminately increased use of vancomycin.
